Dance Dance Revolution

I am not ashamed of my penchant for reality television shows with the word "dance" in the title. Some may ask "How can you watch this crap?" and my response is two fold:

a) I like the format. I can occasionally look up from my Scrabulous game, watch a few minutes of dancing then go fold some laundry. Plus there's always a recap at the end of each show and often a whole flashback episode so I feel as though I never miss a beat (so to speak).

and

b) They’re awesome!

Last night I watched a marathon showing of Randy Jackson Presents: America's Best Dance Crew, hosted by Mario Lopez (former Dancing with the Stars contestant, best known for his role as AC Slater on Saved by the Bell, and had a brief stint on Kids Incorporated if we want to go way to the back of my head). If that weren't enough there are 3 celebrity judges: JC Chasez, second cutest guy from N’sync; Lil’ Mama who is an enigma wrapped in a riddle wearing a sparkly oversized baseball cap; and choreographer Shane Sparks from So, you think you can Dance? Funny, Randy Jackson is nowhere in sight, but the judges surely took a Randy Jackson judging workshop to prefect the "you did your thing" and "next time you gotta really BRING IT" repartee. And the crews are filled with good-looking, talented, young, healthy people wearing coordinating outfits and dancing in unison. How could you not like that?

The formula format involves challenges (use these props, dance upside-down, etc.), interviews with the contestants, a look into their rehearsal time, a trip to the Official Dunkin Donuts Refueling Station, the endless banter, reminders that you can phone or text in your vote after the show, the dramatic pauses while we go to commercial break again, the dramatically-lit humiliation round ending with the losing team's banner falling from grace (the rafters) and ending with the "final dance on this stage" where the losers are expected to suck it up, wipe away those tears and do that losing dance one more time for the folks at home.

This is a cash cow that practically writes itself – I. Want. In.

PS – I was going to post this yesterday and didn’t get around to it. Then last night Go Fug Yourself posts their own Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best Dance Crew bit. I was scooped!!!
