Boone is definitely my guru.
He is my constant teacher of patience. He takes all things at a snails pace, never rushes and I am beginning to think his extra year or so in diapers was his way of saying “You have no control over this matter so just accept that.”
He protests loudly when I stray from the present, or show any resistance, anger or fear. For instance, if I bring home a bad attitude from my workday he literally growls. Within his growl I hear the words “What’s this got to do with me? Is this even important at all” He even has a shorter, quieter growl that he uses in his car seat if I get frustrated at other drivers on the road!
He has a sixth sense for detecting insincerity that makes the usual kid bargaining I see so many parents take advantage of (especially around Christmas time) ineffective. I have learned it's best to be direct, honest and open to multiple outcomes in my parenting and it has flowed into other aspects of my life with good results.
Above all they say that your guru can transpose his/her state of enlightenment onto you – and I can attest that in his presence I am always able to find the positive (before too long anyway) and have a gratitude that I haven’t experienced before.
Who knew that your guru could be someone you made?!

Beautiful post, Sue...and equally gorgeous photo of Boone. Love it. We need more people like Boone around, that's for sure!
